The

quarry shut down in 1986 after workers struck two springs.
Marine life includes catfish, largemouth bass,
crappie, bluegill, and koi.
Underwater attractions include a UH-1 helicopter,
1941 Dodge fire truck, motorcycles, four-wheeler frames
that serve as an "iron reef" for fish, a school
bus, seven runabout boats, two cabin cruisers and a navigational
course.
Onsite amenities include a concession stand,
restrooms, "primitive" camping facilities, picnic
tables, changing room, one submerged platform at 23 feet,
two floating docks, four open-water training platforms and
two advanced training platforms.

As
part of the Explore Midwest Diving
program, we will be visiting Pennyroyal Blue Springs
Scuba Resort on Saturday, June 13, 2009.
Here
are the directions from St. Louis.
64
East to Mt. Vernon (57 South)
57
South
24
East to exit 65 (Hopinksville/Highway 68)
68
East
Once
on 68 East, you'll travel past Autozone. Shortly thereafter,
you'll take the fork in the road to the left.
Cross
over Pennyroyal* Expressway and make a right into the quarry.
* There seems to be some confusion about whether you turn
on Pennyroyal or Pennyrile Expressway. Watch for either!
After
you check in with the Pennyroyal staff, check in with the
Midwest Scuba staff. We will have an EZ-Up setup with a
large Midwest Scuba banner. The EZ-Up should be setup by
9:00 a.m.
Site
briefing information will be provided at the Midwest Scuba
EZ-Up.
Each
buddy team will be responsible for planning their own diving.
Anyone without a buddy will have plenty of time and opportunity
to find a buddy for the day's diving.
For
those interested, Pennyroyal is open for night diving.
Night diving at Pennyroyal can be a real treat because of
the visibility. If people are interested in night dives
we will leave the EZ-Up in place. There will also be lanterns
in the EZ-up to help setup/break down equipment.
Those
interested will need to provide their own lights - one primary,
one backup and a marker light or lightstick.
If
you are interested in visiting Pennyroyal as part of
the Explore Midwest Diving program, please visit the EMD
page and RSVP to our Staff.
